Workout Tracking vs. Training From Memory

Training from memory feels fine until progress slows. Here is what a log catches that recollection misses.

Memory favors the memorable sets. You remember the PR. You forget that accessories have not moved in a month, or that rest periods crept from two minutes to four.

A reliable log creates a baseline. Last time: 80 kg for 5. Today you know whether 82.5 kg is ambitious or overdue. Without that reference, most people either coast or jump too far.

Tracking also reveals patterns across weeks. Maybe Mondays are strong and Thursdays are flat. Maybe deadlifts stall whenever sleep dips. Those links are hard to see mid-session and easy to spot in a history view.

You do not need a perfect system. You need a reliable one. Log the working sets that matter, keep the format consistent, and review before you start the next session.

LiftLog keeps previous performance beside the current set and stores full workout history so you are not guessing between sessions.
